Second day at the Elf center was cooking day. No festive spirits without some Cinnamon smells and hands covered with flour! Alfie had never ventured in his mother’s kitchen and he was very happy when he realised that baking was on the agenda. He always loved the sweet smells of baking.
Today he was going to learn to make Pepper cookies, they are small, brown and a bit hard. They taste wonderful. As long as you don’t eat them all at once!here are the ingredients needed :
500 g flour
250 g sugar
2 tsp bicarbonate 1tsp ginger
1 tsp Cinnamon 1 tsp cardamom
¼ tsp white pepper
grind of one lemon
200 g butter 2 eggs How to make
Pre-heat the oven, 180 degrees.
Mix the dry ingredients in a bowl. Cut the butter into dices and add to the flour, blend well.
Add the 2 eggs, one at a time and mix well.
Divide the dough into 2 or 3 balls, then roll them into long and thin sausages, they shouldn’t be thicker than your thumb. With a knife, cut into 1cm thick slices. Place the slices on baking paper in a pre-heated oven (180 degrees). Bake 10-15 minutes until light brown.
Cool the cookies on a wire rack before placing them in a tin.
Baking pepper cookies was easy for Alfie, he couldn’t wait for his next assignment!
